Emergency Repair Checklist

Pick what's happening right now and work down the list. The first ten minutes decide how expensive this gets.

  1. 1.Shut off the main water valve — usually at the meter or where the line enters the house
  2. 2.Open the lowest faucet in the home to drain remaining pressure
  3. 3.Kill power to any circuit near standing water at the breaker
  4. 4.Photograph everything before you clean up — insurance will ask
  5. 5.Move belongings and start extracting water within 24 hours to prevent mold
Who to call

Licensed plumber, plus a water mitigation company if more than a small area is soaked.

This checklist is general safety guidance, not professional advice. When in doubt about fire, gas, or electrical hazards, leave the home and call 911.
