Emergency Repair Checklist
Pick what's happening right now and work down the list. The first ten minutes decide how expensive this gets.
- 1.Shut off the main water valve — usually at the meter or where the line enters the house
- 2.Open the lowest faucet in the home to drain remaining pressure
- 3.Kill power to any circuit near standing water at the breaker
- 4.Photograph everything before you clean up — insurance will ask
- 5.Move belongings and start extracting water within 24 hours to prevent mold
